About Terra

Building a better world through solar

At Terra Energy, we believe going solar should be as good for people as it is for the planet. This section shares what drives us—the mission behind our model, the measurable impact our members make, and how every home that joins helps build a cleaner, more resilient future.

How does going solar with Terra Energy benefit the environment?

Going solar with Terra Energy means you're actively reducing harmful carbon emissions and cutting back on reliance on fossil fuels. By harnessing clean, renewable energy from the sun, you're helping protect the planet, improve air quality, and contribute to a more sustainable future for generations to come. In fact, the average residential solar system can offset the equivalent of driving over 20,000 miles in a gas-powered car each year.

Will my HOA have an issue with me going solar?

In most cases, homeowners associations (HOAs) cannot legally prevent solar installations due to solar access laws in many states. However, HOAs may still have specific guidelines about where and how panels are installed.

It’s a good idea to check with your HOA early to make sure you’re in compliance with their rules. If needed, Terra can provide support during the approval process.

You can also recommend Terra to your HOA—we actively partner with communities to offer tailored solar solutions and even have a special program designed specifically for HOAs.

Do I need to insure the system? Who insures the system?

No, you don’t need to purchase separate insurance for the solar system. Terra Energy retains ownership of the equipment throughout your subscription and provides full coverage for it. That includes protection against damage, theft, and system malfunctions—so you can enjoy the benefits of solar without any added responsibility or risk. If anything goes wrong, our team will handle repairs or replacements at no additional cost to you. It’s all part of our commitment to making solar simple, secure, and hassle-free.

How does Terra make money?

Terra Energy operates on a solar-as-a-service subscription model. Rather than selling solar panels outright, we provide clean, reliable solar energy to customers for a fixed monthly rate. This allows homeowners to enjoy the benefits of solar without the high upfront cost of purchasing equipment.

We’re able to keep our prices low and our service top-tier by leveraging tax incentives, purchasing equipment in bulk, and streamlining operations. These efficiencies help us deliver affordable energy to our customers while maintaining long-term profitability.

Our focus isn’t just on selling hardware—it’s on delivering a seamless, worry-free solar experience.

Does Terra offer batteries? Can I install my own battery?

At this time, Terra does not directly offer battery storage systems as part of our energy solutions. However, we recognize the growing demand for energy independence and backup power, and we are actively exploring battery storage options to better serve our customers in the future.

If you’re interested in adding a battery to your current setup, you may install your own battery system—pending review and approval by Terra. This ensures that the installation meets our safety and compatibility standards, and aligns with local regulations and your current energy plan.

To move forward with installing a battery, we recommend contacting our support team for guidance on the approval process and technical requirements. We’re here to help you make the most informed and seamless decision for your energy needs.

Stay tuned for updates, as battery storage options may be added to our offerings soon!

What are the benefits of choosing a solar subscription over traditional financing?

A solar subscription offers a number of advantages compared to buying or financing a system:

Lower upfront costs: There’s no large initial payment—just a predictable monthly subscription fee.

No maintenance responsibilities: Terra owns and maintains the system, so you won’t have to worry about repairs, replacements, or upkeep.

Flexible terms: Subscriptions are designed to be more flexible than long-term loans or leases, with options that can better fit your lifestyle or future plans.

Immediate savings: Most customers start saving from day one, with subscription rates that are typically lower than standard utility prices.

With a solar subscription, you get all the benefits of clean energy—without the hassle or commitment of ownership.

How is a solar subscription different from a loan or a lease?

A solar subscription offers a simpler, more flexible alternative to traditional solar financing. Unlike loans or leases, there are no upfront costs or long-term debt involved. You don’t purchase the system—instead, you pay a predictable monthly fee for the power it produces, similar to how you pay your electric bill.

With a subscription, there’s no need to worry about maintenance, repairs, or system performance. Terra owns and manages the equipment, so you can enjoy clean energy without the hassle of ownership or financial risk.

Who is eligible for a solar subscription?

To qualify for a Terra Energy solar subscription, you must be a homeowner located within our service areas, have a roof with sufficient space and sunlight exposure, and maintain energy usage levels that make solar a good fit. Additionally, eligibility is subject to local permitting regulations and a quick credit check to ensure financing approval. Our team will guide you through the process to determine if your home is a match and walk you through every step of the way.
